Listed below are the different ideas for orientation processes among the three middle schools. Any added remarks or comments can be discovered in the discussion tab at the top of the page.
New Augusta Orientation
New Augusta is completing their orientation on Friday, February 5th. They are directing all of their students to an LGI room at the beginning of the day, doing a quick 10-minute intro, and then dismissing the students to their 7th period teacher. They are all teaching a short orientation using information they have agreed upon as a team and then assigning the netbooks to the students. The students will then be dismissed to their 1st period teacher to begin the day. They will continue carrying the netbooks from class to class each week.

Guion Creek is completing their orientation on Monday, February 8th. They are directing all of their students to the auditeria at the beginning of the day, doing a quick 10-minute intro, and then dismissing the students to their 7th period teacher. They are all teaching a short orientation using information they have agreed upon as a team and then assigning cardboard to the students. The students will then be dismissed to their 1st period teacher to begin the day. They will carry these fake netbooks for one week. On Tuesday the 16th, students will be assigned real netbook for transport from class to class. The teachers will again do an orientation involving how to check the netbooks in and out each day as well as how to add a printer.
Lincoln Orientation
Some of the teachers at Lincoln have pretty much accomplished their Phase 1 orientation. We think all Lincoln classrooms should complete their Phase 1 procedures by Tuesday the 16th. On that day, you might want to move to Phase 2. Jimmy had some great ideas on how to continue the process: Phase 1 (in-class procedures): 1st period students receive their computers during the end of Explore on a day in which they will be used for the lesson. They shut them down at the end of the period, leaving them on their desks for the next class to use. Near the end of 2nd period, students are prompted one row at a time to bring their computers to the docking cart where the teacher will plug them in for charging. The computers will recharge during 3rd period. Near the end of 3rd period, the teacher can place a computer on each desk in preparation for 4th period OR the students can receive them near the beginning of class. The computers stay on the desks through the split lunch and for the remainder of the school day. This should not be an issue with a full battery. Near the end of 7th period, students are again prompted one row at a time to bring their computers to the docking cart where the teacher will plug them in for charging.
Phase 2 (class-to-class procedures): Teachers assign computers and docking slots to their 1st period students. Records of the assignments will be kept by the Explore teacher, and students/parents will be aware that they are responsible for the care of that particular machine. Students will retrieve their computers when prompted near the end of Explore. They will carry their machines from class to class just as they would their books. At 3:46, students will be dismissed to their Explore class to dock their machines for charging OR students attend their 7th period class for Explore where they retrieve their machines. At 9:00, they are given 2 minutes to walk to their first period class to begin the regular class schedule. Students dock their machines in the 7th period class at the end of the school day.
Students in Bailey’s, Murray’s, and Webster’s Explore should get their laptops from their 7th period teacher prior to Explore.
I don’t know how we’ll handle mid-day recharging during Phase 2.
Phase 3 (take home): pending legal advice
